Where Are They Now - Colin Brune '96
Colin Brune '96 was a 3-time All NCAC pick, twice at close defense and once at long pole, during his career. He currently lives in Birmingham, AL and works for MarketSource, Inc.
What do you do now?
Executive Director of Business Development for MarketSource, Inc. I am over the Southeast for MarketSource. MarketSource specializes in outsources sales and marketing solutions.
Do you have a family?
Wife Paula, 4 kids 3 girls and a boy…Eve 11, Avery 10, Whitley 9 and Tate 7.
Do any of your children play/did they play?
All of my girls played (I coached the team). My son is currently playing baseball which is BIG in the South. I never got a chance to play baseball growing up so I wanted to let him experience our national pasttime before I switched him over. He is starting to get bored with all the standing around and is ready to switch over.
Did you play lacrosse after graduation? If so where?
Yes, I played club ball for Team Toyota in Baltimore. Our team was stacked with several all Americans. I actually got to play with the Gait brothers and Quint Kessenich(Hopkins goalie now a commentator on ESPN)
Are you involved in lacrosse now? If so, how and where?
When we moved to Alabama, I started coaching the local high school team (Spain Park Jaguars). I coached them for 2 seasons but had to give it up to coach my kids and deal with work. I am proud to say they won the Alabama state championship last year!
What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Denison lacrosse?
FRIENDS….”friends of Denison Lax” and Coach Caravana.
Did you have a defining moment as a Denison player? What was it?
Any time we beat OWU it was a big deal! I was fortunate enough to beat them more times than I lost in my DU career. Most memorable moment: an over the head check vs. W&L’s top attackman which got us the ball back with seconds to go and led to a last second win! Most painful memory: triple OT loss to Gettysburg in the playoffs.
If you had to summarize your feelings about Denison lacrosse in 25 words or less, what would they be?
Playing at Denison and for Coach C taught me a lot of life lessons: work hard, don’t quit, “don’t be average”, take responsibility for your actions, have fun, enjoy the weather: “beautiful day in central O”, “a friend in need is a friend in deed!”
What was your favorite story, moment or game from your Denison playing days?
I will never forget all the “gibbos” we ate on all those bus trips- love those things- what a sub sandwich! One other crazy story was game we played at RIT my senior year. We got off the bus and went to check out the field and noticed that a very large(WA) for the Wingless Angels had been burned into the midfield line. Needless to say RIT wasn’t very happy and came out pretty fired up but so did we. It was hard fought hard hitting game that we pulled out.
Do you keep in touch with any of your old Denison teammates?
Yes, Trent Brown, Matt Connell, Alex Jacobs, Ethan Ewing, and several others via Football (Craig Reeves, Mark Masterson, Matt Rizzo)
Do you follow the current Denison program?
Yes, I always check the website and paper for scores, I used to always try and catch their spring break games on the east coast when I lived in Baltimore.
Do you see value in what the DLA does?
Yes! I think it is an opportunity to not only support the program and connect with old friends/teammates but to also connect families/kids and also foster business relationships!
What could the DLA do to provide more value to you?
I would like to see a regular newsletter and form one website on Linked In or FB where everyone can post to. [Editor's note: the DLA has a group on LinkedIn called Denison Lacrosse Alumni. CLICK HERE and check it out!]
Other comments/stories/connections:
When I came to Denison, the program wasn’t very good or very respected and was kind of rebuilding. We weren’t OWU, Roanoke, Gettysburg, Salisbury or W&L. I am proud to say through a lot of hard work and great relationships, we changed all that. I am now very proud to say I played for the BIG RED nit only because of what my teams accomplished but for the legacy over the years!!
